Your Andean Mountain adventure through the Lares Valley to Machu Picchu begins early with a 5:00 AM pickup from your Cusco hotel. In just under an hour, we will arrive at the awe-inspiring Pisac Inca Citadel. Explore the ruins in the morning’s tranquility, before any other groups arrive, and learn from your guide about the rich history of Pisac and its significance during the Inca Empire.
This morning, we’ll join a local family for a home-hosted breakfast, where you’ll enjoy traditional Andean cuisine while experiencing a lively cultural exchange. The delicious breakfast will energize you for the first day of trekking.
We then drive for 40 minutes to Huaran, where we’ll meet your horsemen and horses. With boots on, we begin the first stretch of the trek, a gradual 3-hour ascent towards Cancha Cancha. Along the way, enjoy a riverside lunch, prepared by your trekking chef, replenishing your energy for the journey ahead.
At Cancha Cancha (3,900m / 12,800ft), you will arrive in one of the most isolated and traditional communities in the region. This community has remained self-sustaining for centuries, with no road access until recently, and electricity was only introduced in December 2019. After setting up camp and enjoying afternoon tea, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a local family and learn about life in this traditional Andean village. Your guide will serve as your interpreter during this fascinating cultural exchange.
As night falls, enjoy a hearty dinner before your guide introduces you to the Inca constellations, which were vital for agricultural guidance and continue to hold cultural significance to this day.

After a delicious breakfast, you’ll feel energized and ready to tackle the second day of our trek. We begin our 7-hour hike northeast, starting with an intense ascent that takes us through high mountain passes, leading us to the highest point of our trek at Pachacutec Pass (4,500m / 14,800ft). Reaching the summit is a moment of triumph, and you'll embrace the satisfaction and exhilaration of making it to the top! Along the way, the stunning views of glaciers, remote lakes, herds of alpacas, rugged valleys, and majestic mountain vistas will keep you motivated. Don’t forget to look up to spot Caracara falcons and Andean geese soaring through the sky.
After soaking in the incredible summit views, we begin our 3-hour descent to the Quiswarani community (3,700m / 12,139ft). During the descent, we’ll take an isolated trail, where you may encounter indigenous highland people dressed in traditional attire, herding their llamas and alpacas. The local indigenous people will welcome you with warmth and open hearts, and you’ll have the chance to interact with them in Quechua, the language of the Incas. Your guide will serve as an interpreter, helping you learn a few words of this ancient language.
As we approach Quiswarani, you’ll be amazed by the spectacular seven waterfalls, a sight you won’t soon forget. Once we arrive in Quiswarani, we will board our transport for a 2-hour drive to Ollantaytambo, where we’ll take the train to Aguas Calientes. After the scenic train ride, we’ll check into our hotel in Aguas Calientes for a restful night, preparing for the exciting day ahead.

This is the day you’ve been eagerly anticipating! After an early breakfast at your hotel, you’ll board one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu, ensuring you arrive in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise over this iconic ancient site. It’s truly an extraordinary moment you won’t want to miss!
Your expert guide will lead you on a comprehensive 2-hour tour of Machu Picchu, where you will explore its most important landmarks, including the Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Condor, Temple of Three Windows, Sun Dial, Quarry, and the House of the Inca. Along the way, you will also learn about how Machu Picchu is divided into three key sectors: agricultural, residential, and religious.
For those who have pre-booked extra hikes, you will have time to explore Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, offering unparalleled views of the citadel and the surrounding landscapes.
After your tour, you’ll head back down to Aguas Calientes by bus for a relaxing break. You can enjoy lunch (not included) or spend your free time shopping, sightseeing, or visiting the museum or the hot springs in the area.
Your train ride back to Ollantaytambo departs at 14:55 or 15:20. The train follows the spectacular Urubamba River, passing through narrow canyons and scenic sections of whitewater. You’ll also have a chance to see Wiñay Wayna from the train, nestled high on the steep canyon wall.
