Palcoyo Mountain Tour

ITINERARY:

We will begin our journey early in the morning, around 5:00 AM. We recommend acclimating for at least 2 days in Cusco to fully enjoy this experience.

We will travel south of Cusco for about 2 hours to the district of Cusipata, where we will stop for breakfast at a local Andean restaurant. From there, we’ll continue to the district of Combapata, at 30-minute drive away. Along the way, we’ll stop to take photos of the charming colonial bridge of Combapata, a perfect spot to capture memorable moments.

Next, we will embark on a 2-hour journey, including a stop at the colonial bridge of Checacupe, located on the left bank of the Salka River. Along this stretch, you’ll have the chance to observe native alpacas in their natural habitat—a unique spectacle. Finally, we’ll reach the community of Palccoyo, located at 4,100 meters above sea level.

In the town of Palccoyo, we will begin a short, 45-minutes walk at a normal pace to reach the colored mountain. During the walk, you’ll have the chance to admire different mountain ranges. If you wish, you can explore the enigmatic Stone Forest, where you can ascend at your own pace. For those who wish to explore further, our guide will offer the option of taking a light 40-minute hike to reach the higher parts, where the three colored hills and the stone forest are revealed in all their splendor.

After 2 to 3 hours exploring the Palccoyo colored mountain range, we will begin our return to Cusco along the same route. We will return to the same restaurant for a comforting traditional Andean lunch, savoring local products from the region. We will continue our journey back to Cusco, with an expected arrival around 6:00 PM.
