ITINERARY:

DAY 1: CUSCO – OCONGATE – TINQUI – UPIS LAKE – UPIS.

We will pick you up at 04:30 am. from your hotel and go by private van for about 2 hours to Tinki where we will get off to stretch our legs and we will take advantage of visiting the Tiki town where we will see people still wearing their typical dress. Then we drive for about 1 hour on dusty and bumpy roads. Once we get to the trailhead of our hike, we will have our delicious breakfast and then meet our horseman. We will start the hike From Upispampa through many remote villages with many stream crossings until you get to the small town of Upis. The trail is almost flat with some ups and downs. We will hike for about 3 hours until we get to our campsite. Here we have our private Cabins where you will spend the night. Our cook will prepare a delicious lunch. After enjoying our meal, you have the option to hike to Upis Lake which takes 2 hours round trip. The trail to this beautiful lake is flat for about 40 minutes and the last 20 minutes is a gradual uphill. Once we come back from the lake, we will enter our cabins where we will have a chair to sit in and enjoy the tea looking at the amazing Ausangate through the window. Then we will have our dinner then we will go out to enjoy the first starry night, you will remember it

DAY 2: UPIS – ARAPA PASS – YANA COCHA – PUCA COCHA.

We will wake you up at 05:00 am with coca tea or coffee delivered to your Cabins and you are given a delicious breakfast for the day ahead. In The morning start hiking up to Arapa Pass (4968m) Along the way we are going to observe local farmers and alpacas, Ausangate snow-capped to your left side, and you will have English- a speaking guide explaining about flora, and fauna and talking about the landscape along the trail. if we are lucky we might see condor, chinchillas, and vicuñas. Also, we will enjoy colorful lakes and get to our campsite of Puca Cocha where we are going to be surrounded by high mountains and unbelievable hanging glaciers, watch and hear the glacier crashing into the tarns below! As usual, tents are going to be set up inside the mountain huts for us to change, take a nap, and have our lunch. Since this campsite is close to Puca Cocha Lake, you will go to the lake where you will see many types of ducks, Andean geese, and many other types of birds. Then you will have dinner at our dining room which is built with rocks and mud.

DAY 3: PUCA COCHA – APACHETA PASS – ANANTA – SURINI PASS – QUEULLA QOCHA.

Today is a difficult day, You start with Puca Cocha pass (5051), the very colorful mountains that surround you. As well as you have a spectacular view of Mount Ausangate and colorful glacier lakes then you will enter into the Red Mountain valley, an intact landscape with vivid colors all around, and llamas 

eating grass right close to you.  Then you will have lunch at our dining room where our Rainbow Mountain 2 day spend the night. After our meal, we need to climb the second pass called Warmi Saya pass(15,090ft-4500m-14,000feet)from where you see this amazing Rainbow Mountain in the distance, but you are not quite there yet! From this place, you go downhill to circle the lake and keep walking a Peruvian flat until we reach our campsite. If the weather is good, we will go to the Rainbow Mountain for the sunset.

DAY 4: QUEULLA QOCHA – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – RED VALLEY – CUSCO.

Today is the day you have been waiting for. We will wake you up at 06:00 am with coca tea delivered to your tent then you will hike for about 45 minutes until Rainbow Mountain.  you will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depending on your trekking speed and weather conditions). After enjoying the RAINBOW MOUNTAIN for about one hour, we go to visit the RED VALLEY which takes another 30 minutes. Then we go to the bus station to catch our van. Today after our last supper we say goodbye to our horseman and the chef and get back to Cusco where you will be dropped off at your hotel around 05:00 pm.

ARRIVAL TO CUSCO

You will be welcomed at the Cusco airport by one of our team and taken to your hotel (private services). Please ensure that you inform us of your flight details at least 14 days prior to your arrival. Look for our representative holding an dark blue board Machupicchu Trekking Peru at the arrival terminal. You must exit the terminal, in order, to find our representative (they cannot enter inside).

CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE AT YOUR OFFICE?

Of course! During the Classic Inca trail to Machu Picchu, your main luggage can be stored at our office or at your hotel, whichever is more convenient for you. Please only pack what you will need for the trek!

WHAT ABOUT THE BALANCE?

50% balance, to avoid the high credit card fees in Peru, you may pay IN CASH at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in Cusco. There are many ATM within the historical center to withdraw money.  You can also pay by your CREDIT CARD but you will have to pay a 5% service fee, to the iZipay collection company.

DO I NEED MY ORIGINAL PASSPORT ON THE AUSANGATE TREK?

Yes! You have to bring your original passport and it is very important that it is the same passport number, you sent to us to book your entrance ticket to Ausangate Trail. Your passport will be checked when you enter to Rainbow Mountain. In case, you are renewing your passport, go ahead and send us a copy of your old passport to secure your permit and we can change it when you get your new passport. If so, please send us a copy of your new passport as soon as possible.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS?

What age range is suitable for this tour?

Usually the minimum age is 10 years old. From there there is no specific age limit, but the idea is that adolescents, young people, adults are in the appropriate physical shape for this adventure. In the case of older adults, it would be advisable to do a prior self-evaluation.

What is the best season to do the Lares trek to Machu Picchu?

The best time to go for a walk in good weather is between the months of April-October, since we have clear skies and smaller-scale river rainfall. The driest months are between June - August, which is winter in the Andes. January to March is summer in Peru, which means that the rainy season for Cusco and especially the Inca Trail and it is not advisable to travel at this time of year.

Weather in Ausangate:

Ausangate has two seasons during the year, the rainy season and the dry season.

The rainy season: This season covers the months of October to March, when the maximum temperature reaches 20 ° C and the minimum reaches 5 ° C.

The dry season: It comprises the months from March to October, this time of year for Lares reaches a maximum temperature of 17 ° C and the minimum temperature down 0° C.

NOTE: Rains and cold are present throughout the year, especially in the high areas of Lares.

Duffle Bag & Small Backpack 

The evening before you start your trek, you will be given a SMALL DUFFEL BAG to pack your clothes for the next four days. Your weight allowance is up to 7kg/15lbs. Your team of porters will carry your duffel bag, together with the food and camping gear. It’s important to be aware that you will not have access to your items in the duffel bag until the end of each day, as the porters will always be ahead of the group. During the trek, you will need a day backpack big enough to carry your personal belongings such as a warm jacket, a rain jacket, your camera, sunscreen, snacks, water, etc.  A 30 to 50L backpack is sufficient. By Peruvian law, a duffel bag must not weigh more than 7 kilograms (15lbs). This limit is set to protect the health of the porters and animals. All bags will be weighed before being accepted. If you require more than 7 kilograms, it will then be your responsibility to carry the extra weight with your day pack. In this 7 kilos, please count 2 kilos for your sleeping bag and 1 kilo for your sleeping pad (foam or air). This leaves you about 4 kilos for your personal gear..

What Happens if i am unable to finish the Trail?

In the scenario that you are unable to finish the trek due to health reasons, Machupicchu Trekking Peru will assist you to the nearest town for help with transportation. We always carry oxygen on our treks for any respiratory problems. In extreme cases, a helicopter pick up can be arranged at your own expense. (Travel insurance is required and recommended). There are no refunds in the unlikely situation that you are unable to finish the trek.
Generally, those who have to be assisted off the trail are taken to Pacchanta from there you will return to Cusco.

Are we dropped off at our hotel after the Ausantate Trek?

Absolutely!! Hotel pick ups and drop offs are included with all of our packages! If you have booked your hotel in the Sacred Valley, we will drop you off there and vice versa.

Tipping?

If you’re happy with the services provided, a tip – though not compulsory – is appreciated. While it may not be customary in your country, it’s of great significance for the people who will take care of you during the trek.  It inspires excellent service and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Machupicchu Trekking Peru destinations. Of course, you are free to tip as much as you want, depending on your perception of the quality and the length of your trip. Remember, a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.

1.- Machupicchu Trekking Peru rates do not include:

    • Travel insurance. You are responsible to acquire travel insurance to cover the dates of your journey. [See Insurance below]

    • Porters or bag carrying (unless stated in the tour description), laundry, telephone calls, items of a personal nature and gratuities (unless stated in the tour description).
    • Side trips or excursions shown as optional.

    • Entrance fees to national parks, archaeological parks or municipal taxes (unless stated in the tour description), which must usually be paid on site in cash.

In some locations, the services of a representative are not included, and, particularly if you have so requested, you may have only a driver who speaks a little English.

  1. Machupicchu Trekking Perú local Tour operator, is not responsible for cases of force majeure (unexpected or uncontrollable events) (according to law), nor is it responsible for the actions of passengers.
  2. Machupicchu Trekking Perú local Tour operator, reserves the right to cancel or change any trip due weather, political conditions or pandemic. It also reserves the right to cancel any trip due to the client’s unsuitability due to age, ill health, poor fitness, intoxication etc.
  3. Any missed tours due to the circumstances mentioned above (weather conditions, political conditions or pandemic) cannot be refunded.
  4. Machupicchu Trekking Perú local Tour operator, reserves the right to cancel the passenger’s reservation on a tour if they have not paid the total sum of the tour at least 12 hours prior to departure, UNLESS the passenger has made an alternative arrangement with the Machupicchu Trekking Perú staff.
  5. Machupicchu Trekking Perú reserves the right to work with other agencies if on certain dates they do not have enough passengers for a departure.
  6. In the case that damages are caused to third parties, all the expenses claimed from Machupicchu Trekking Perú that originate from the above -mentioned incident will be charged to the client, who will have no right to later claims.
  7. When a passenger wishes to cancel their trip, the refund shall be according to the decision taken by Machupicchu Trekking Perú, according to the Cancellation and Refund Policy mentioned below.

 

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY


The 50% down payment

  •  Machupicchu Trekking Perú is non-refundable, except in serious situations (as described below).
  • * This does not include bookings of the Inca Trail, airfares and hotels: unfortunately, the 50% down payment for the Inca Trail, airfares and hotels are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Important: services, tours, treks and packages booked with Machupicchu Trekking Perú is non-refundable, but could be changed of date without any administration charge.

 

DEADLINE TO CHANGE TOUR DATE

Tour date changes will be subject to availability of income to the Inca Trail, Machupicchu and hotels, without any administration charge, in the following time frame:

 Inca Trail – at the latest 20 days prior to the departure date.

Tour with hotel – at the latest 15 days prior to the departure date.

Tours without hotel – at the latest 10 days prior to the departure date.

Important: Third party administration fees have to be paid at the moment of the date change (airline fees, transport companies, hotels, partner agency charges & entrance fee)

•           If the client wants to change the date tour within the days timeframe prior to departure, the client will be charged an Administration Fee.

DEADLINE OF CANCELLATION

  • Cancellations will not be accepted if not submitted in writing, at the latest 20 days prior to the departure date. This policy applies for the 50% down -payment.
  • different time frames apply for Groups and complete Peru Itineraries, in this case individual arrangements about cancellations have been made at the moment of booking).

** In case of cancellation due to a serious illness or another serious situation, the following procedures are applicable (situations will be judged at the discretion of the Machupicchu Trekking Perú reservations department):

In case of cancellation due to a serious illness or another serious situation (measured by the Machupicchu Trekking Perú reservations department), the following procedures are applicable:

  • Cancellations will be accepted in writing only.
  • In the case of illness or pregnancy, a medical declaration that will be evaluated by the doctor of Machupicchu Trekking Perú, needs to be attached to your written statement.
  • In the case of military service, an official declaration also needs to be attached to your written statement.
  • Machupicchu Trekking Perú Tour operator will evaluate the situation together with the client and will consider a PARTIAL refund of deposit. Machupicchu Trekking Perú Administration Fee applies.
  • Third party administration fees (airline fees, transport companies, hotels, partner agency charges & entrance fee) are exempt from any refund; these charges still must be paid for by the client.

Machupicchu Trekking Perú Travel Agency will refund the respective amount at the latest 30 days after the date it received the written cancellation statement, in most cases by wire transfer.

SECOND.- we require a deposit of 50% per person in order to purchase a permit for the Tour or Trek to Machu Picchu. the fastest ways to send and receive money with fairly low fees, are through:

WHAT ABOUT THE BALANCE?

50% balance, to avoid the high credit card fees in Peru, you may pay IN CASH at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in Cusco. There are many ATM within the historical center to withdraw money.  You can also pay by your CREDIT CARD but you will have to pay a 5% service fee, to the iZipay collection company.

ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTY FOR CHANGES

• There will be no cost of the Administrative Penalty in the date changes of a tour, walk or package in the indicated periods.

• Administrative fees charged by third parties such as (airlines, transport companies or associated providers, entrance fee) will be paid by the passenger, at the moment of the date chage.

The client will be charged an Administration Fee of US $20.00 Fee for all changes in bookings before the days frame time.

INSURANCE
We recommend that all customers obtain a travel or medical insurance policy in their home countries.

  • Passengers are responsible for ensuring that their travel or medical insurance policy covers the activity or sport in which they are participating Passengers may be required to show us a certificate of this insurance policy prior to the commencement of the itinerary.
  • Machupicchu Trekking Perú Tour Operator, cannot be held responsible for personal injuries or any belonging that are lost, damage or left in vehicles or accommodations. 


VISAS

  • Currently, visitors from Western Europe, the USA, Canada, UK, New Zealand or Australia do not require a visa to enter Peru, however all visitors are responsible for enquiring about their particular case. Visitors from other countries must enquire about obtaining a visa at the nearest Embassy or Consulate.
