Day 1: Humantay Lake & Exclusive Highland Camping Morning departure from Cusco to Soraypampa. Includes a 2-hour ascent to the turquoise Humantay Lake (4,200 m / 13,779 ft) for exploration and photography. Afterward, a descent leads to the exclusive Pachamama Camp (4,000 m). Afternoon options include a hike to the Salkantay Viewpoint or relaxing in the comfort of our Andean Huts
Day 2: The Salkantay Pass & Return to Cusco The most challenging leg of the trip. A 4-hour steady ascent leads to the Salkantay Pass (4,630 m / 15,190 ft), the highest point of the entire region. After a traditional Andean ritual to honor the mountain gods (Apus), descend to Soraypampa for lunch in Mollepata and a private transfer back to Cusco.
Your unforgettable experiences in the Andes start today, after picking up everyone from their respective places or hotel, we will leave Cusco around 5:00 am and we will take you to the town of Mollepata by car for 2 hours. Once in Mollepata, we stop to have a delicious breakfast and also pay an entrance fee of 20 soles to the local municipality. Then we continue by car 1 hour more to Soraypampa, ones there, we will start the uphill hike to Humantay lake for 2 hours, when you arrive at the lake you will have enough time to explore, photograph the place and the guide will explain all the meaning of the Humantay lake. After a couple of hours in the lake, we start going down to Pachamama exclusive camp for 2 hours to have a healthful lunch. After lunch, you have free time to explore the beautiful area and also if you like more hiking you can go up to Mirador of Salkantay for the panoramic view of the entire region. If you are tired, you can rest in the ANDEAN HUTS, inside there are pillows, a sleeping pad. PACHAMAMA: It is an exclusive camp located at 4000 m, it is a unique camp that has places for short hiking, overlooking the mountains, and has waterfalls. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains.
This second day of the trek is a little hard because it takes you up to the top of the highest point of the whole Salkantay trail to enjoy the fantastic views of the mountains (APUS)
The cooks will wake you up around 5:30 am with a cup of hot coca tea then you have time to repack and get ready for the nutritious breakfast which serves around 5:45 am. After is time to start hiking up to the highest point of the Salkantay trail which is 4630 m.a.s.l. that takes around 4 hours uphill hike with a regular and slow pace.
Once you are at the highest point, you have time to enjoy the mountains, to take pictures and the guide will teach you about the mountain gods also you will be part of the small Andean ritual for the Apus the mountain gods. Then you walk back to Soraypampa for 2.5 hours downhill where you will meet the transportations, whose is going to take us to Mollepata for one hour for lunch and after two more hours to Cusco by car. you will arrive in Cusco at approximately 6:00 pm.

You will be welcomed at the Cusco airport by one of our team and taken to your hotel (private services). Please ensure that you inform us of your flight details at least 14 days prior to your arrival. Look for our representative holding an dark blue board Machupicchu Trekking Peru at the arrival terminal. You must exit the terminal, in order, to find our representative (they cannot enter inside).
The best time to make the trip is in the dry season, that is, between May and October. The most advisable month is May since everything is still green after the rains. On the other hand, the coldest month is June.
First of all, a backpack, in addition to the one that will carry the horse, as well as a sleeping bag of at least -5 degrees. The clothing should be suitable for trekking in a highland climate, with heat during the day and very cold at night. To store clothes, bring 3 bags that allow you to keep clean clothes separate from dirty ones. Yes! You have to bring your original passport and it is very important that it is the same passport number, you sent to us to book your Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu permit. Your passport will be checked when you enter Machu Picchu , the Inca Trail and when you board the train. In case, you are renewing your passport, go ahead and send us a copy of your old passport to secure your permit and we can change it when you get your new passport. If so, please send us a copy of your new passport as soon as possible.

How many days do I need to acclimate myself in Cusco before the trek?
We recommend that you spend at least 2 to 3 days in the city of Cusco to help acclimate yourself and to avoid possible problems associated with altitude sickness during your trip. If you have already been to another destination with a high altitude before arriving to Cusco, we still recommend that you spend a full day in Cusco to rest, recuperate from your trip, and to enjoy the beautiful views of the city before departing for your trek.
What is the weather like in Salkantay?
In general Salkantay is known for its unpredictable weather, so no matter what time of year please come prepared for both warm and cold temperatures, and rainy and dry conditions. It helps to know what season you’re traveling in though and Salkantay experiences two main seasons, the rainy season (November-March) and the dry season (April-October).
During the rainy, warmer season temperatures average around 15°C / 60°F during the day and 5°C / 40°F at night. However, with a high chance of rain and wind at the Salkantay Pass, these temperatures may feel colder to you.
During the dry season the weather is sunny and clear and on average 20° C / 70 °F during the day but much colder at night, around -3 °C / 26 °F.
Also, after the second day, as we descend into the Peruvian Amazon basin, the weather changes to a more humid and warmer climate and these humid temperatures are consistent throughout the year.
What clothes do I need?
We recommend two long-sleeve trekking shirts, two short-sleeve shirts, leggings or trekking pants, shorts, four pairs of underwear, sweatpants for the night, three pairs of hiking socks, a rain poncho, an insulated jacket for the Salkantay Pass, gloves, beanie, a hat with a brim, hiking boots, a bathing suit (if you plan to visit the hot springs), and slip on sandals to rest your feet at the campsites.
What bags should I pack?
On the Salkantay Trek you will be permitted one personal daypack (a 30 to 50 L backpack is sufficient) and before your trek we will give you and one extra duffle bag from our office which can be used to carry your extra clothes and personal items.
What is the weight limit for my duffle bag?
Your weight limit for the duffel bag is 5kg/11.03lbs. The mules will carry your duffle bag along with food and camping equipment. It is important to note that you will not have access to your clothing items in this bag until the end of each day, as the muleteers and hor ses will always be in front of the group. So, put the items you'll need immediately in your backpack and put the items you won't need until the evening in your duffle bag.
How many meals are included?
The Salkantay 2D/2N Trek includes 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 4 dinners. The only meals not included are breakfast on the first day and lunch/dinner on the last day after the tour of Machu Picchu.
What type food is served on the trek?
We serve a variety of traditional Peruvian dishes including rice, chicken, beef, fish, pasta, salad, potatoes, eggs, pancakes, bread, and for lunch and dinner each meal begins with a soup.
Do you offer vegetarian/vegan options?
Yes, vegetarian/vegan options are available. Let us know before your trek so we can accommodate and inform your chef.
Generally, the minimum age is 10 years. From there there is no specific age limit, but the idea is that adolescents, young people, adults are in the right physical shape for this adventure. In the case of older adults, it would be advisable to carry out a prior self-assessment.
The snowy Salkantay reaches 6,271 meters above sea level (m.s.n.m.). The trek route that leads to Machu Picchu has its highest point in the ‘Abra Salcantay’, at 4,650 m.a.s.l. From there you can see the peak of the snowy mountain.
The snowy mountain itself has an extremely cold climate (several degrees Celsius below 0º). The climate during the Salkantay trek, on the other hand, is varied. The intense sun and the cold at night in the first days are changed by the tropical environment of the last.
The best time to visit Machu Picchu is in the dry season (from April to October). During those months, there is less chance of rain so the roads are in better condition. In the dry season, however, the days are sunnier and the nights colder. According to mountaineering experts, June, July and August; It is the best time to do the Salkantay trek.
